Currently I have... - VIA EPIA PX1000 Pico-ITX running RideRunner in XP - 7" 800x600 screen - 8GB CF card for the system files and a 32GB CF card for MP3, movies and other data - USB GPS mouse with Odyssey Navigator - DAB+/FM Venice radio module - dual mini stereo amps for front/rear 4 channel sound. It all fits onto custom trays mounted in the double-din slot, replacing the OEM CD/radio unit. Recently the screen was changed to a 7" IPS 1280x800 and the CF cards to a single 120GB SSD. I also have the following waiting to expand it's capabilities... - interface boards to add the RR-PDS with front and rear parking sensors and a rear camera - USB OBD-II interface for vehicle diagnostics - Velleman K8055 USB I/O board for some interfacing to various signals Future ideas are to add wing-mirror cameras and front bumper cameras with a special 4-port all-round view screen so I can use it for wheel placement when doing 4WD tracks. The Pico won't run Win 8 or 10 so I'm looking at either installing Win 7 or upgrading the Pico to something better, maybe a Quad-core and using Win 10.

What screen did you end up with? Happy with it?
I am going to be looking for a readable (as possible) screen for the convertible and am looking at options.

I recently upgraded my 800x480 Lillyput to a 1280x800 IPS 7" screen from ebay and re-used my existing touch panel. Search 7" 1280x800 ips raspberry pi to find them. Very happy with the clarity and brightness indoors on the bench. I'll post some pics of it in the sunlight soon.

Thanks, I've been looking with interest at that screen.
Hopefully it looks good outside as well.

OK so I ended up getting a Beelink AP34 to replace the Pico-ITX and have been slowly installing RR on it with some plugins. Getting all the files and screens for the old plugins is proving a little difficult but slowly they are being found. Getting them to work with RR in Win10 is another task on its own. I got my USB GPS working and installed Garmin Mobile PC navigation too. Just got to get Xport or something similar to work in Win10 so I can parallel off the GPS to RR as well as the navigation.
As the AP34 only needs 12V instead of an ITX supply, I ordered a MiniBox DCDC-USB to power it which arrived today so now it is on to modifying the power switch. Interestingly enough, the DCDC-USB has programability by the USB port and has a diagnostic tool which shows input voltage, ignition voltage, output voltage and other stats so I'll be looking into the DS-ATX plugin to see if I can use it for this power supply.

Had this annoyingly spare switch/indicator position in my stereo dash surround which was absolutely begging for something to be done with it. Got a USB panel socket extension and modified it to give me an access port to the carPC on Flickr on Flickr

Hi all, I'm back after quite a long while away. The reason for popping back in is that my USB sound card has been playing up occasionally not connecting and I also think a USB hub has occasionally been glitching and stopping the touchscreen from working. I'll have to check if they are on the same hub. Also, son has finally got his license and wants to borrow the 4WD for a small trip with some mates so I have to get everything ship-shape before he goes. Interested to learn what's been going on in the development of Driveline, especially in reskinning options. Something I'm interested in getting is this all-around-view system Since it uses only a single video feed it will be much easier to implement without multiple camera ports and it does all the nice video proportional processing.

Replaced the rtc battery since date kept resetting to 2112. Ordered a slightly larger, higher capacity CR1620 with tabs to replace the original smaller CR1220 and resoldered the leads across with the connector.

Was getting a little buzz in the speakers while the engine running. Typical alternator whine. Added a suppressor to the alternator and did nothing. Decided to pull everything off the power supply except for the amps and with both connected (front+rear stereo) with Y-cable the buzz was there, but with only one amp (front or rear) connected to an mp3 player everything was quiet. So it seems there is a ground loop between the 2 amps when the inputs are paralleled and I'll have to sort something out for them. Maybe isolating mounts for the metal cases or a new 4-channel amp :>)

Slowly putting the pieces back together as I methodically add them to find the source of the buzzing. So far I have the amps, pc, screen, usb hub (unpowered), wireless keyboard, touch screen and gps all plugged in and OK. PC boots with working touch screen, gps is found and navigation software functional. Next is plugging in usb soundcard to check connection with amp inputs.

Sound card generates the buzzing when plugged into the USB. I have opened it up and found a lot of suspect solder joints on the board so that will be my first thing to check and retest afterwards.
Meanwhile, anyone have a recommendation on a good usb soundcard which has 4.1 outputs with atleast 1 or optionally 2 line-in inputs ?

I don't know much about audio. My tablet had terrible audio buzz. The buzz got worse as the screen brightness increased. I switched to a cheap USB sound card and that eliminated the buzz.
I've always just wired in to the stock aux input in the head-unit of my vehicles.

Same. Never trusted my carPC to be able to handle volume control 100%. Too many carPC lockups at high volume to consider anything else.
