Well after 6 years of enjoying my build in my daily driver, I find its time for an upgrade. I am going to try and build around the ASrock J3455b mini-itx with builtin CPU. I like my real com ports, so it's difficult finding a board with serial ports these days. So when I found this little board with 2 serial ports I bought it. 109cad on Amazon.ca www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01M7OUO62/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (my go to site for whatever I want these days) I also picked up a pair of Corsair Vengeance 4gig low voltage ram stick and a Kingston sata-3 120gig SSD. I will migrate the 500gig WD black HD as the storage drive with music/video. Not sure if I will be migrating over the all-in-one box or using separate devices until I decide to make a version 2.0 of the all-in-one box. I will be installing the AVE TPMS, Phidgets 1018, front and rear parking sensors, XM/HD radio's and Scantool's SX OBD2 dongle and a M3 power supply. Pictures to follow. SNO

Nice! Another build.
I started to type in a work log last night and had to leave it. I will get it uploaded soon.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this board, lots of pics please!

Hit bit of a snag with windows 10 and serial ports, Now going the windows 7 ultimate route. Now this is a real chore since this board is really designed for windows 10. First off I had to make the drive gpt as the uefi needs this type of drive format. Next is the installing issue with usb3 support or lack of I should say, after many attempts I finally gave up that route and plugged in an internal sata dvd drive and got the install going and completed. then a big list of question marks in device manager, slowly solving them one by one with some great instructions from this post www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157728 Onward and upward more details to follow SNO

serial I/O driver giving grief as well as an add-in card with 2 serial ports installs and drivers show all good but serial port is not found when trying to use it in hyperterm. Slowly chugging away at the windows 7 update list and still working on a few driver issues but I see light at the end of the tunnel now. SNO

The light burnt out near the end of the tunnel. Windows 7 install was a bit of a nightmare with drivers since this Apollo/Kaby Lake processors are mainly setup for windows 10. I got it down to 1 item missing driver. Only problem, it was usb controller so no usb devices not usb2 or usb3. So then I thought that since everything else is working why not try the Windows 10 upgrade even thought the free copy was cancelled in July last year but low and behold you can still get free upgrade if you have a valid win7 key/ or activated. That was a very good decision on my part as it is now running fine with all drivers and com ports working. As a bonus I was running win7 ultimate so the upgrade to 10 allowed me to have win 10 pro. The saga continues today. SNO

Sounds good, 10 boot times are fast with the updated bios, I see no need to use sleep or hibernate.

10 boot times are fast with the updated bios, I see no need to use sleep or hibernate. Only if the PC POST takes too long

New plan since this new style boards are mostly set for windows 10 and do not like loading it up with peripherals. I did a cpu comparison to what I have already and actually I have a faster system with my q9100 socket p so I found a qx9300 to fit my socket and bus speed. I do like my MSI Industrial board and I still like windows 7. It should be in this week some time. The J3455B would be a good HTPC but not suitable for CarPC. Just my opinion here other may have more tolerance than I do with windows 10. Stay tuned for update in a week or so. SNO

Hmm, I wonder if I should use the onboard Serial port on my PC for the HD Radio instead of using the USB cable. I have both the Serial and USB variants of the interface cable. Using Win 10... If I enable the serial port the system sees it... So I am assuming it works ok. Just have to get the serial port passed out of the case I have. Probably a lot easier to do now than before I install it in the console..
Just ordered one.. See how it goes..
