I need access to that forum as well and have been waiting weeks to be approved. I can't post or pm anyone over there, including moderators. All I can do is send an email via the contact us, which is never read I am sure. It stems back to post #432 in this thread: www.mp3car.com/forum/general/mp3car-forum-suggestions-comments/150213-problems-with-new-forum-post-here/page29opticalfx actually posted today in that thread, but I can't contact him since I am not approved. I think the anti spam measures have gone a bit too far. Can someone please post in that thread and mention my problem?

And they still get spammed and leave it for days. I will see if I can get a hold of anyone you might also try a PM here to enforcer since he has some pull there. That's why I got out after 7 years from the lack of support. SNO

I have never seen anything so bizarre as the way that very successful forum/website just went off the rails and no one appears to care. There has to be more to it than we know. Maybe retail sales had dropped off and they wanted commercial customers only and those customers don't use the forum.... I just don't know. I just know that one day it won't be there anymore and all of that valuable info that people have been contributing for yours will be gone. I saw it happen on another forum I was part of.

It amazes me too. I have seen many forums die before, but never as suddenly and completely as that one. And never such a big community. Makes me a bit sad that I never got to be a part of that community. Now it is just cobwebs and echoes over there.

I wonder if they would ever sell a backup image of the forum so it could be fired up elsewhere??

There was a previous discussion about doing a scrape of the site to get all the info. Might take a while but it should be doable. It would be bad if all the info there was lost.

That discussion was with me before on the OM forums. I started a simple scraper project for it via C#. It's tested working somewhat, but certainly not finished. I still have it somewhere but haven't touched it in like 6+ months. I think I got to the point of what to do with the data? It will be a lot of data. The best solution would be to put it back into a database, but that's not very flexible for others unless we come up with a standard for the design...
If there is enough interest I can certainly look at finishing it up. It's not that complicated...
Also, I've just been scraping the html, so we'll have full replies/text that includes things like their image tags, url tags, and anything else they included.

Sounds great! I am sure someone here will know what to do with it once we have it. I also have support from proboards as well. We should be good if it works out that you can get the data. Thanks SNO

Well, for the time being I opted to throw all the data inside an MSSQL database. It's free and easy since I already use it a lot, just made a new database locally. This is how things look at the moment. I only tested with a few forum categories, so I'm hoping that sub forums correctly get linked with their parent forums. Attachments:

Can I get a copy of this? I would like to map it out and see what it looks like. I will look at my hosting account and see what forums I have available. I can likely write a conversion script that will allow me to install the forum on another location so the information is still available.
The only real issue I see is the user names... May have to do some "magic" to make it work.
I assume you can do a simple SQL dump?
I MAY have MSSQL loaded on my development machine at home. I have VS2013 and VS2015 installed on my machine at home for an upcoming ASP.NET project I will be doing.

Here is an update: I have been running the scraper on my laptop for about 10ish hours now (Can't be too sure as it fell asleep at some point). I currently have 19k+ threads and 237k+ replies to those threads. It's still going... The only issue I might have is with sub forums being linked to their parent forums. But it's a start. philg -> Not too much else to do but let it run by itself. redheadedrod -> Why would the usernames be an issue? I am putting this into my own local MSSQL database at the moment. I have no problems sharing the data, it's just the local db was the easiest/fastest way to store this much data. How do people want it when it's finished?

If installed into a self standing searchable application then the user names mean nothing.
If installed into a forum program and you insert the user names you have to install user accounts for those names and if someone with that user name wants to get onto the forum you will have issues...
So if importing into a new forum you need to deal with the user names somehow. I would probably prepend the names or something so they are obvious.
